Undergoing rapid growth and team expansion led Switchee’s Head of People and their team to recognise that some staff were being promoted into line management roles that they perhaps weren’t all-too-confident in, while other line managers were performing well but needed support to ‘get out of the weeds’ and step into more leadership roles.
There was a desire for hyper-personalised development, meeting individuals wherever they were on their professional development journey, rather than ‘one size fits all’ training programme.
Upwrd designed a bespoke coaching programme which was offered to Switchee senior individual contributors, and new and existing line managers and leaders in ‘Head of’ positions.
Upwrd Coaches delivered personalised one-to-one professional coaching sessions over a 6 month period to key individuals. Coaches were matched according to the Switchee employee’s goals for coaching.
Some individuals chose to have their coaching programme focus on their career direction and their desire and drive to step out of an individual contributor role and move into a management role.
More experienced line managers focused their sessions more on improving their ‘leading self’ and ‘leading others’ mindsets, skills, knowledge and behaviours. Those looking to fulfil their career aspirations to move into Senior Leadership positions focused their coaching sessions more on stepping out of day-to-day management and thinking more strategically and commercially.
Switchee employees reported high satisfaction levels on completion of their one-to-one professional coaching programmes, with all staff reporting 100% ‘positive forward movement’ at the end of their programme compared to the beginning.
