Coaching Confidence, Building Culture

Client Overview

 YouView TV is a British technology company that brings together content and innovation in connected TV. As a fast-moving, product-led business, YouView knows that strong leadership and effective collaboration are vital not just for delivering results, but for shaping the culture that underpins them.


Their aim? To support their leaders at all levels with the confidence, mindset and behaviours to lead authentically, communicate effectively, and build psychologically safe teams that thrive.

Partnering to Foster Empathetic Leadership & Collaborative T

Our Engagement

Our work with YouView began through a 1:1 leadership coaching partnership with a member of the Executive Team. The coaching experience led to a wider relationship, as YouView sought Upwrd to support other key people development and collaboration challenges in the business.


Since then, we’ve partnered with YouView across a range of human-focused development initiatives:

1. Leader Coaching

We’ve delivered 1:1 coaching programmes for a number of mid- and senior-level leaders across various functions including engineers and central functions. We’ve provided a space for reflection, confidence building, and practical mindset shifts. Common themes have included:

  • Navigating growth and change with clarity
  • Developing emotional intelligence and resilience
  • Communicating with influence and impact
  • Leading with authenticity and presence

The coaching has supported both personal development and performance in-role, enabling leaders to grow, stretch, and lead both themselves and their teams with greater confidence.

2. Psychological Safety Workshops

Drawing on our Human Skills Development portfolio, we delivered interactive workshops on Psychological Safety. The workshops were designed for two distinct audiences: one for cohorts of managers and leaders, and another for cohorts of cross-functional members of non-managerial staff. 


These sessions helped participants explore:

  • What psychological safety means in practice, and what gets in the way of fostering a psychologically safe environment
  • How to create conditions of trust, challenge and openness
  • Tools for speaking up and challenging behaviours with confidence
  • Role-modelling vulnerability and inclusive leadership

The sessions were practical, reflective, and grounded in YouView’s real working context.

3. Team Away Days

We’ve facilitated bespoke team away days designed to deepen connection, strengthen collaboration and surface ways of working around tensions. 


Each session was co-designed with the team leader to align with team and business priorities, and to build a democratically-created Team Charter which included:

  • Clarifying shared team purpose, goals and roles
  • Identifying ideal team behaviours and communication norms
  • Agreeing how team members will challenge behaviours and norms that fall short

4. Group Coaching for Managers (Coming next)

Our next phase of work will bring together a cohort of people managers to engage in a Group Coaching programme - a space to share real challenges, build peer support, and grow practical leadership habits in a psychologically safe environment.

The Impact

YouView is building a culture grounded in human connection, not just technical excellence. 


Through a mix of leadership coaching programmes, team facilitation and practical human skills development workshops, we’ve helped to:

  • Strengthen leadership confidence across functions
  • Embed the language and mindset of psychological safety
  • Build more connected, collaborative teams
  • Create sustainable development spaces for managers to grow together
